ReEnvisioning Neighborhoods: Community Revitalization in Mueller, TX
Prompt
Analyze the physical, spatial, and socio‐cultural context of the Mueller neighborhood. In this research phase, students will learn how to address urban‐scale issues from various perspectives (e.g. morphological, perceptual, and socio‐cultural). Students will propose a neighborhood‐scale design plan. This phase includes a series of exercises regarding neighborhood design such as 1) interpreting/programming the site, 2) proposing solutions to existing constraints of the site, and 3) situating the site within the larger urban context.
Currently, Mueller feels closed off from the surrounding neighborhoods, the park spaces are un-programmed and designed poorly. To further brand Mueller, I believe it is essential to provide the community with fun, playful areas that attract all ages. By creating two spaces that share both an interactive green space and mixed-use commercial/residential, I feel that this unplanned space will turn into a colorful and beautiful space for all to use.
The importance of creating a space that is inclusive and reaching out to the rest of the community is at the center of my design. I hope that the southern location, in proximity to existing features, will slowly connect the urban landscape to the ever-changing patterns of development.
